Master Bond Polymer System EP36 is a unique one component high performance toughened epoxy system for electrical potting, casting, encapsulation, baked coatings and adhesive applications. It features an outstanding combination of properties including high temperature stability up to 500°F, outstanding thermal shock resistance over the exceptionally wide temperature range of -80°F to 500°F, superior physical strength, excellent adhesion to metallic and nonmetallic substrates, excellent chemical resistance plus superior electrical insulation characteristics. Master Bond Polymer System EP36 offers the additional convenience of being a one component system together with flexible cure schedules. Master Bond EP36 is a hybrid epoxy system which offers excellent toughness and at the same time has outstanding heat resistance at high temperatures. EP36 has a unique chemistry which allows the product to be both tough and heat resistant without sacrificing mechanical, electrical, or thermal properties. At 100°C, EP36 has a Shore D hardness of 35. As the temperature increases, the hardness will decrease and remain tough enough to allow for thermal cycling and excellent heat resistance. Master Bond Polymer System EP36 is supplied as a solid, it must be heated in a forced air or conventional oven at 180°F to get it into a liquid state. Once liquified, it can be cured at temperatures ranging from 250°F to 350°F and higher. Gel times and cure schedules depend primarily upon temperature. A typical gel time is 30 to 60 minutes at 300°F. Full cure can be achieved by further heating for about 3-5 hours at 300°F or shorter time periods at higher temperatures. Pertinent physical properties of the Master Bond Polymer System EP36 are summarized in Table #1. Master Bond Polymer System EP36 fully meets Mil-T-27E Class H or U service requirements for electrical insulation. It has successfully withstood more than 1000 hours of service at temperatures as high as 500°F.
